About The Well

Welcome! I’m glad you’ve found your way to Pastor Kim’s Ponderings, a collection of my various thoughts during my journey to plant The Well, a new United Methodist Church in Valrico, Florida. Unlike our usual new churches, The Well is a network of house churches. Like the early church, we meet in homes weekly to give our praise and worship to God and to learn how to live a life that honors him.

We started The Well to provide another opportunity for people to be a part of a faith community. The typical church setting doesn’t work for some people:

  • Maybe you work on Sundays or your family has conflicting commitments that day – house churches can meet whatever day or time they choose.
  • It may be that you feel more comfortable in a smaller, more intimate setting – house churches tend to be only as large as the host homes can accommodate, usually 12-16 people.
  • Perhaps you’ve been away from church for awhile so you’re uncertain how to return to church - worship at a house church is basically like visiting friends at home.

We have two house churches meeting weekly. One is in the River Hills area and the second is in the Copper Ridge area, both in Valrico. We worship and study every week, also spending time in prayer for each other. We serve others together when we can and many of us also take part in a mission or ministry individually. We want to be a community where people experience such loving hospitality on our journey together as Christ followers, that we find God’s grace forming us into people who willingly offer ourselves for the sake of others.

To find out more about The Well or how you can be a part of it, contact me. I would love to tell you more about the adventure!

God bless you,
Kim Uchimura

saw your latest post (about naming your fellowship) under the wordpress “house church” tag. We’ve been doing the house church gig now since 1999. While it may not be for everybody, I would never go back to the traditional model.

I’m so glad to hear from someone who has been doing this longer than me (since July 2011). What is it that you like best about the house church? Oh, and I noticed ‘monkdouglas’. Do you follow the Benedictine Rule? I’m an oblate of St. Brigid’s of Kildare, a United Methodist Benedictine Monastery.

Hi Kim. My name’s Keri and Mont in the FLUMC office just told me about your church. Would love to email you about a couple of things if you’re willing. Maybe too much for a comment here. hahaha. You should have my email address as part of the comment (visible only on your/the admin’s end) – if you’re open to that, would you send me an email so I can reply? Thank you, and hope to talk with you soon!

Let me know what you think.
